Apples in Winter Farm

Improving Animal Health, Strengthening Local Systems

Welcome to Apples in Winter

Apples in Winter Farm is a small, values-driven breeding and agricultural farm rooted in the belief that how we raise animals, steward land, and share knowledge matters.

Formerly known as Harmony Farms, Apples in Winter reflects both continuity and growth: a deeper commitment to regenerative practices, ethical breeding, and education that supports resilient families, healthier animals, and more just local economies.

Here, animals are bred with intention, land is managed with care, and food and fiber are part of a larger story—one that reconnects people to where their necessities come from, and why that connection matters.

Breeding with Intention, Not Scale

We specialize in the careful breeding of animals selected for health, temperament, structure, and long-term wellbeing. Every breeding decision is guided by function, environment, and sustainability rather than trends or volume.

Regenerative Agriculture in Practice

Apples in Winter Farm operates with a regenerative mindset: improving soil health, supporting biodiversity, and working with natural systems rather than against them.

Our approach emphasizes pasture-based management, climate-appropriate breeding stock, and resilient land use that strengthens ecosystems over time. Animals are selected not just for beauty or pedigree, but for their ability to thrive in real conditions—seasonal cold, variable weather, and the demands of working land.

Regenerative agriculture is not a buzzword here. It is a daily practice that shapes how we raise animals, grow food, and plan for the future.

Food, Fiber, and Economic Justice

Local food and fiber systems are not luxuries. They are essential infrastructure.

We believe that supporting small farms, ethical breeders, and regional producers is one of the most effective ways to interrupt cycles of poverty, increase food security, and keep wealth circulating within communities.

By prioritizing locally sourced food, responsibly produced fiber, and transparent agricultural practices, we aim to contribute to systems that are more equitable, resilient, and humane—both for people and animals.

Education is central to this mission. Apples in Winter Farm exists not only to produce, but to teach, share, and advocate for agricultural literacy at every level.

Education Rooted in Experience

Much of what we offer grows out of lived experience rather than theory alone.

Through writing, outreach, and future educational initiatives, Apples in Winter Farm focuses on helping people understand:

  • How animals are responsibly bred and raised

  • Why regenerative agriculture matters for climate and communities

  • How local food and fiber systems strengthen economic independence

  • What ethical stewardship looks like in practice, not just in principle

We believe land and livestock are powerful teachers—and that sharing that knowledge openly is part of responsible farming.

A Farm with a Long View

Apples in Winter is named for what endures.

It is about planning beyond a single season, breeding for decades rather than quarters, and building systems that remain viable in uncertain times. It is about patience, restraint, and care—values that are increasingly rare, and increasingly necessary.

Whether you are here to learn, to purchase responsibly bred animals, or simply to reconnect with the realities of land and life, you are welcome.

Welcome to Harmony Farms

Nestled on six idyllic hillside acres in Warren County is my dream come true: a small farm where we can enjoy our animals and bring animals into this world to share this joy with others.

At Harmony Farms, we are deeply committed to nurturing our local community by providing sustainable food and clothing. We believe that the key to a healthy, thriving community lies in fostering a close connection with the land and the people who inhabit it. Our farm operates within the concept of a "fibershed," a region defined by the natural resources and human skills needed to produce food and fiber in a way that supports both the environment and the local economy.

We prioritize sustainable practices that enhance soil health, protect water resources, and support biodiversity. By doing so, we ensure that the food we grow and the fibers we produce are not only of the highest quality but are also created with minimal environmental impact. Our dedication to sustainability extends to our clothing line, where we focus on using natural, locally-sourced materials that are ethically produced.

At Harmony Farms, we see ourselves as stewards of the land, working to create a resilient local economy by supporting other small businesses, artisans, and farmers in our fibershed. By choosing our products, our community members are investing in a sustainable future—one where the land is cherished, local traditions are preserved, and everyone has access to healthy food and ethically-made clothing.

Our print-on-demand store helps to support all we do on our farm. We are always looking to find the most sustainably-sourced products to offer here, but some of them are fairly "standard" fare, at this point. We created the artwork featured. More products are available on our RedBubble store. If there's something you'd like to see here, please let me know!
